“Can you tell me about your company?”
Before you ever apply for a job (and certainly before you interview for a job), you should have done some research and already know about the Company you’re hoping to join. Phrasing your question this way will certainly raise a few eyebrows, and most likely spell the end of your candidacy.
What most candidates really want to hear are firsthand accounts regarding the corporate culture from the folks they meet with. Be more specific about what it is you’re wanting to know. Try rephrasing your question like;
- “What was it about Acme, Inc. that motivated you to join?”
- “What has your experience been like since joining?”
- “You’ve been with Acme, Inc. for 10 years now, what is it about the organization that has won your loyalty?”
Remember, it’s not always what you say, but how you say it!
